Romance

Romance, the light and the dark, uniquely human,
Primal concerns of all creatures who reveal a strategy,
Exalt the darkness of survival or conceal its reality,
Practice the instincts of the vole or seek the willowy
Whistle stops of fantasy with horseman standing by;
Mysteries of gross perpetuity travel in separate mask.

Romancing the get-away, midnight…
While her master sleeps, she runs downstairs in her
Frilly things, wearing all her jewelry, only her favorites,
She may not be coming back, it depends. She dons
A fluttery velvet cape and goes out into the blustery
Night, only moonlight to guide her instincts. Her men
Wait amid hailstorms or fierce gales to rescue her,
Devoted, no matter how long it takes her to get there.

Romancing the come-on, midnight…
While her master sleeps, she finishes the last touches
To her flame-war blog entry and publishes her Goth
Girl website, then runs downstairs to meet her coven
Members, their weekly celebration of Mother Nature
Gathered not to shun or reject men, but to learn the
Techniques of enslaving and binding them, so a man
Will wait amid hailstorms or fierce gales to rescue her,
Devoted, no matter how long it takes her to get there.
